Fired Up!

Back in 2016, my girlfriends and I went to a paint your own pottery studio for a “Girls Weekend” activity. It was a blast and I have been wanting to go back ever since.

I’ve asked my husband to go with me a few times. To be honest, he is normally the kind of man who will do just about anything I ask him to do with me. Winery- Check! Disney on Ice (Twice)- Check! Tiny House where he ends up sleeping on the floor because he is worried about the furniture steps- Check! The only thing he HATES to do is artistic-type things. He doesn’t think he is very good at drawing or painting, so he doesn’t like to do them anyway; but he really doesn’t like to do them with me, when I have a little bit of ability. So I can’t be upset when he refuses to go do this one particular thing.

But wouldn’t you believe it, when my little sisters came to have a Sister Sleepover a few weeks ago and they wanted to go paint pottery, all it took was one look from my sister asking him to go with us, and he agreed (not even all that reluctantly).

They had just reopened the store after being closed due to the COVID shut downs, so the place was pretty much empty when we arrived- which ended up being a good thing for several reasons:

  1. It took us a lot of time and walking around to figure out what we even wanted to paint and then what colors we wanted to use.
  2. There was a lot of giggling!
  3. There was also a lot of under-the-breath cussing when we messed up. The store employees thought it was hilarious.

My sisters ended up picking volkswagen/camper banks and coffee mugs. They also ended up going with very similar colors. I chose a gnome coffee mug. And in an attempt to find the manliest thing we could find for my husband, we found him a monster bank.

Here they were when we had finished painting them!

I cannot get over how cute the monster is! I don’t think he did too badly for his first time!

I was pretty proud of how my gnome turned out too!

About a week later, I got a call that they were ready to be picked up. After they were fired, they ended up looking brighter and shinier.

Aren’t they so cute?!?!

Verdict is still out on whether or not the coffee mugs will leak, I’m a little nervous to try it out. But I guess it could always be a cute pen holder for my desk if it doesn’t work out!

All in all, it was a super fun activity. A little expensive after paying for the studio time for four people and the items themselves, but not bad when considering it was 2 1/2 hours of entertainment.

Definitely would do again, if my husband allows! (LOL)
